For many years the Chairperson of the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for Cancer Prevention, Madeline LoRe, spearheaded major projects in her community for the health and well being of its citizens.
When the Bayonne Medical Center, (formerly Bayonne Hospital), became for profit, Madeline once again looked to the community to identify its needs. The state of the economy coupled with the high unemployment rate quickly brought a group to the forefront. They are the working poor (our constituency), uninsured people over the poverty level, and the undocumented which is a significant number in Hudson County. With the focus on cancer prevention, Madeline rallied her supporters. They looked to the community once again to identify much needed cancer screenings for those who could not access those tests. The result was the establishment of the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for Cancer Prevention in June 2008.
As we have grown and extended our affiliations to include hospitals in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Hoboken, so has our demographic base. Some of the screenings supported by the foundation are: colonoscopy, mammogram, oral, skin, colposcopy, and analscopy. These services are available to anyone in the surrounding areas who can access the hospitals or service providers that have partnered with us: RWJBarnabas Health Jersey City Medical Center, Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center, Christ Hospital, and Bayonne Dermatology Group which takes care of the skin cancer screenings. The Metropolitan Family Health Network in Jersey City does the oral cancer screenings. Our latest affiliation is with the Hudson River Radiology where women without insurance can receive a mammogram paid for by the foundation.
Madeline is a three times cancer survivor who is passionate about providing services to help prevent this horrible disease. With the help of a dedicated Board of Trustees, it is the hope of the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation that it can make a difference and save lives. Many cancers are preventable.
